Agter Witzenberg

31 January – 2 February 2020

After a beautiful journey, we all arrived in Ceres and proceeded to travel through Prince Alfred Hamlet into the Witzenberg area – a community on its own with amazing views, rocky mountains, luscious greenery and dams with water 🙂

On arrival at the campsite, members proceeded to set up camp, with views overlooking the dam. Friday night was spent catching up with fellow club members on Christmas holiday trips and new adventures.

Tankwa Karoo Doring River 1 – 5 Nov 2019

On Friday morning most of the group of nine vehicles met at the Ceres Zipline base for breakfast, a few dining in town.  We then drove along the R355 until turning into unspoilt wilderness.  A very careful decent down the gorge to the previous river crossing revealed that the storm the weekend before had increased the river level substantially.

Impangele Tunnel Camp 18-20 October 2019

Getting to the campsite involves a steady climb up a valley on a dirt track to the tunnels. The first tunnel still has track in it and caused some concern initially for a few as they thought they may need to drive through on the track! However, a few metres further on the road turns and heads through the older, smaller tunnel that has a smooth gravel base to it. The drive through the tunnel makes for an interesting variation while keeping an eye on the raw rock face above.

Club camping trip to see the Mountain Gorillas in Uganda – May to July 2019

The 4×4 Offroad Adventure Club in Cape Town decided to visit the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda by road, and this adventure became a memorable 55 day overlanding trip for 6 couples in 4×4`s! Planning commenced 12 months before departure, and included signing on 6 willing overlanding members, arranging the route, booking key venues, and preparing the vehicles. The gorilla visit required heavy deposits to secure a specific hiking date.
