Saturday the 16th – Saturday the 30th of September 2023
Would you believe that its almost 2 years since the last Kamiesberg & Northern Cape Trip! Norman, who guided us on the last Kamiesberg trip, is joining us again and is arranging permission to cross some private lands as well.
The plan is for the first 6 nights to be in the Kamiesberg area and explore the mountains. This includes 2 nights in the riverbed we stayed last time to do some hiking and 2 nights at a relatively new campsite at an unusual granite arch and explore the farm with the farmer. From there we move on and spend 2 nights bush camping in the Riemvasmaak area, one night on the Orange River and the next in a section that is not normally visited by tourists, followed by camping on the Orange River in the Boegoeberg Dam area with the option of doing a dune 4×4 trail before moving to Witsands Nature Reserve (thanks to Steve Newbould for arranging) to enjoy the roaring dunes.
The trip is a mixture of formal camping and bush camping – at this point, 9 of the 14 nights are planned to be at formal camping sites so one needs to carry sufficient cash. (I don’t have all the camping costs yet but R150 – R200p/p/n should easily cover the formal camping nights.)
Due to using formal campsites, we will be limiting the number of vehicles, so bookings are first come first serve.
What to bring
- Full camping gear
- Sufficient water to cater for bush camping
- Wood
- More wood
- Compressor & tyre gauge
- VHF radio set to ORRA channel 6
- Usual sense of humour!
To finalise the camping bookings, please let the club know ASAP if you are interested in this outing. As mentioned, we may need to limit the number of vehicles so first come first served.
