The Leopard Trail Guest Farm is situated off the R60 near Bonnievale. The farm offers a guided 4×4 trail, mountain biking, hiking and swimming.
On the Friday we all made our way to the farm. By late afternoon we had all arrived and set up camp. Many enjoyed the cool water of the nearby dam. The weather was warm, hovering in the late twenties. As the shadows lengthened and the temperature dropped a bit, the usual fire was started. We cooked and socialised well into the night.
Saturday morning, as planned, the farmer arrived just before ten a.m. to take us on the 4×4 trail. The trail was a very interesting experience with “Johan Kriel”, the farmer, being the typical chatty but well informed farmer. At a well-chosen spot, with us overlooking the beautiful valley below, he shared with us some of his vast knowledge of farming, what’s happening in the area and some of the politics around farming. All this while some of us were sipping on wine or grape juice generously supplied by the farmer. The trail was about two hours out and an hour back.
On arrival back at camp some of us enjoyed the cool water at the dam until the fire was lit and the usual socialising commenced around the fire that evening.
On Sunday morning seven brave souls tackled the Langeberg Meander, following a stream up to its source. We encountered some swimming holes and water falls. The trail is short but with some challenging sections requiring the use of ropes to navigate the steep boulders.
People then leisurely packed up their camp and left at their own convenience. A wonderful time was had by all. Thanks to Dieter Mylo who made all the arrangements.
