The Middelberg Guest Farm has recently opened a private campsite at a grove of Poplar trees in the mountains that is only accessible to vehicles with 4 wheel drive. There are 4 designated campsites but as we have booked the entire campsite, we can camp anywhere and a maximum of 10 vehicles is allowed.
The campsite has 2 toilets and 2 showers (donkey fed) and water at each of the 4 campsites. If it's hot, we'll even have our own swimming pool to cool off in!
There are +-20 Km of tracks on the farm and the Saturday will be spent doing some exploring. The tracks are primarily rough access tracks on the farm and should not pose any significant challenges though can only be driven with a 4 wheel drive (i.e. there are no 4x4 trails per se). However, this is high country (the campsite is at 1200m) and from what I understand, we should have some exceptional views.
If you like destinations in the mountains where we have the area to ourselves and are allowed to explore as we want, this farm will be right up your street.
Cost
The campsite cost is R 100p/p/p/n or a minimum cost of R 1000 per night.
What to take

Plenty of wood, and then some more
Shade – it can be hot in the direct sun and there is limited shade under trees
Swimming gear
All the gear you need for camping
Offroad trailers can get to the campsite
As the campsite is at 1200m, warm clothes if the weather forecast is not looking too good
Additional info
The farm is 35 Km from De Doorns on the R318, not far from the turnoff to Leeuwenboshfontein. Directions will be communicated with those going.
I will need to know the head count and if you are in a ground tent (will keep the more level spots free for you).
