Alan planned and lead this trip having pre booked the river site for the 9 vehicles / 15 people at the Gifberg Holiday farm to camp 3 nights on the Doring river for the long weekend of 22 September 2017.
The plan was for the 2 groups (early and late) to drive to the farm house on Friday and then drive the 11km 4×4 trail down to the Doring river camp. We spent all 3 nights camping and relaxing on this amazing secluded river spot. The camp has no facilities other than the river which was fortunately flowing this year. The weekend was spent relaxing with some folk doing hikes, swimming and just enjoying the spot. There were a couple of fisherman in the group and a few small mouth bass were caught in the river and apparently were great eating. Big Heritage fires in the evenings kept the slight chill in the air at bay and a great time to chat and tell stories.
Monday morning we all drove the trail back to the farm and some members then headed back home.
Andy took a few of us on a slighty different route home. The route went through the rooibos farm lands inland and to the head of the waterfalls, down the Ouberg pass and into Van Ryns dorp. A very interesting and different way out of the area where we had the chance to see some new sights.
